Workforce for the future

Working with Building Growth South West and MOBIE, we helped to deliver Workforce for the Future on behalf of the West of England Combined Authority.

As part of this project we ran a series of events and site visits over the course of 2022 and early 2023.

The project will support traditional construction SMEs across the West of England through fully funded MMC training – helping to bridge the skills gap and futureproof the local workforce. As such, our events and sit visits are targeted at SME’s and these will be prioritised for site visits. However, everybody was welcome to register and request a place.

Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) and offsite manufacturing are increasingly being seen as a key part of the building industry and are set to provide opportunities to improve productivity and attract new talent to the industry.

The CITB predicts that nearly 50% of all housing in the next five years could be built using Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) but less than 17% of construction SMEs have any knowledge or understanding of MMC systems. Without the sufficient upskilling of the local supply chain, traditional Construction SME’s will be at risk of falling behind.
